What is DPIIT?
DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) recognition is the official recognition of your entity as a 'Startup' under the Startup India initiative. It is granted to eligible companies and LLPs that meet the definition of a startup (e.g. turnover and years since incorporation).
With DPIIT recognition, you get access to tax benefits (Section 80-IAC, angel tax exemptions), fast-tracking of patent applications, relaxation in public procurement norms, and various other schemes run by the government and partner organisations.
Why Get DPIIT Recognition
- ●Tax benefits: Eligibility for Section 80-IAC (tax holiday for 3 years) and angel tax exemption under Section 56(2)(viib).
- ●IPR benefits: Rebate on patent and trademark fees; fast-track examination of patent applications.
- ●Government tenders: Relaxation in eligibility and earnest money for certain tenders.
- ●Fundraising: Many investors and incubators prefer or require DPIIT-recognised startups.
- ●Credibility: Official recognition adds credibility with banks, partners, and schemes.
