What is MSME?
MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) registration, now known as Udyam Registration, is a government recognition for businesses that fall within defined investment and turnover limits. It is administered by the Ministry of MSME through the Udyam portal.
Once registered, you receive a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN) and an Udyam Certificate. This certificate makes you eligible for various benefits including priority sector lending, subsidies, tax benefits, and preference in government tenders.
Why You Should Get MSME Registration
- ●Priority sector lending: Banks have targets to lend to MSMEs; you get easier access to credit and sometimes lower interest.
- ●Government schemes: Eligibility for subsidies, CGTMSE (credit guarantee), and other central/state schemes.
- ●Tender preference: Many government and PSU tenders reserve a percentage for MSMEs or give price preference.
- ●Interest subvention: Some schemes offer interest rate relief on loans for MSMEs.
- ●Identity and credibility: Udyam certificate is widely accepted as proof of business size and legitimacy.
