What is Import-Export Code?
The Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit number issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce. It is mandatory for anyone who wants to import or export goods or services from India.
IEC is required for customs clearance, opening foreign currency accounts, and availing export benefits. It is a one-time registration and does not require renewal unless cancelled or changed.
